Input
Tempo sugerido: 30 minutos
1 1. Conduza com os alunos uma leitura compartilhada do conto “The Beauty of Difference”, um conto persa de autor desconhecido que foi traduzido para o inglês pelo site World Stories, do Reino Unido.
2. Diga aos alunos: Today, I’m going to read to you a tale named “The beauty of Difference”. It’s an Iranian tale that tells about a Iranian girl named Shirin that had to move to London. Se quiser, mostre em um mapa mundi a localização do Irã e da Inglaterra e diga: You see? Those two countries are far from each other. Instigue os alunos a fazer previsões sobre o texto, perguntando: Could you imagine what happened? Why did she have to move to London? (Respostas esperadas: I think her father will work there/ It’s because of the war in Iran) Diga: Great predictions! So, follow the reading and check what happened with Shirin!
Who is Shirin? (She is a girl from Tehran ou she is a young girl)
What happened with Shirin? (Her parents sent her to London)
Why did Shiri’s parents send her to London? (Because it’s not safe in her city / Because of the war/ Because of the bombs).
Did her parents move to London too? (No, they didn’t / No, she was going to live with her cousins).
How was Shirin feeling about this? She did not like it / She is sad about it)
Assim: In which paragraph did you see this information? Se a turma não for tão participativa ou apenas um aluno responder ativamente o que é esperado, parabenize-o e motive a turma a engajar-se na leitura dizendo algo como: Class, do you agree with (name of the student) ‘s answer? Could you say which paragraph confirms his/her answer?
4. Retome a leitura, dizendo algo como: Let’s continue and check what happened! Pergunte:
Where were Shirin and her parents in those paragraphs? (At the airport)
How was Shirin feeling? (She was scared)
How did her parents try to calm her down? (The father said she was brave / Her mother hugged her / Her mother said they would visit her soon)
Did Shirin travel to London alone? (No, with her aunty).
Assim: Which sentence showed you that she was sad? Ou How did you conclude this?
5. Novamente conduza os alunos a fazerem previsões sobre o conto: Shirin was flying to London. What happened when she got there? Diga: Paragraph 12 lets us know that Shirin slept during the trip and dreamed about her new life in London. Were her dreams accomplished when she arrived there? (Respostas esperadas: No, it was very different! She was bullied/ she missed her family/ she was disappointed) What difficulties did she have to face? (a girl at the airport pointed and laughed to her/ the language/ she didn’t understand what people was saying.)
Diga: Shirin was experiencing a bad situation in her life! What do you think will be the solution to Shirin’s conflict? (Algumas possíveis previsões podem ser: She will return to her city/ Her parents will move to London too. She will make friends)
Diga: From this moment, you will read the tale individually. Your goal is to find in the text the solution to Shirin’s conflict.

Tempo sugerido: 10 minutos
So, did you find out the solution to Shirin’s conflict? (Possíveis respostas dos alunos: Stephen appeared and started to talk with her/ She made a friend that helped her/ Other colleagues got close after Stephen started to talk to her). How did Shirin feel after meeting Stephen? (She felt gratitude) Why? (Because he helped her to see it’s ok to be different)
Escreva as frases “I like this tale because…” e “I don’t like this tale because…” em lados opostos do quadro e peça aos alunos que se posicionem no lado que eles concordam. Diga: Tell your classmate/group why you liked or didn’t like the tale. How did you feel reading this tale? Explain your reasons.
Pergunte: (Student’s name), what’s your opinion about the tale? Why did you like or dislike it?
